Xiaoyan (Elaine) Zhang (M.S., 2015)

Eliane joined Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in the summer of 2015 as their web manager for systems and development. Her main responsibilities at LMU include developing websites and maintaining the various systems that power, including the SiteManager CMS, Google Search appliance and more.

Hima Bindu Gowda (M.S., 2015)

Hima is a Technology Analyst at Infosys located in King of Prussia, PA.

Xiao (Shawn) Zhang (M.S., 2014)

Shawn is currently working for Pearson Education, one of the world's leading education companies. He works as a software quality assurance engineer in Pearson's higher education team and is in charge of UI and REST service automation testing for one of Pearson's online learning products.

Jing (Emma) Zhao and Guojun (Gordon) Zhang (M.S. & M.S., 2013)

Emma and her husband Gordan work for Dealer Dot Com, Inc. (, a Dealertrack Technologies Solution, which provides an integrated platform of Inventory, Advertising, Website and CRM products and allows OEMs, dealer groups, retailers and agencies to leverage advanced digital technology and data to better engage and connect with their customers.

Specifically, they work in CRM (Customer Relationship Management) team as backend Java developers. The technologies they use to build CRM include Spring Framework, Spring Integration, RabbitMQ, MongoDB, Hadoop, Elastic Search, Clojure, AJAX, JavaScript etc. Emma is responsible for writing maintainable java code, designing and developing functionalities to fulfill the new business needs and also fixing the existing issues in the system. Gordon is a full stack developer on the web platform team.

Sami Alghamdi (M.S., 2012)

Currently, Sami is in his second year of the Ph.D. program in the School of Systems Engineering at the University of Reading, UK. Sami's research is in "Data Mining Algorithms on Parallel MapReduce." Particularly, he is investigating K-Means performance on Hadoop MapReduce.

Sami's positions:

Sonia Chawla (M.S., 2012)

Sonia is a Business Intelligence Developer working for the Information Systems Department at Saint Joseph's University. She uses the University's Operational Data Store and Enterprise Data Warehouse systems to develop database objects for Institutional Reporting.

Sonia is also responsible for developing packages using modeling tools such as IBM Cognos Framework Manager and Transformer which can be used in Cognos for Institutional Analysis and Reporting.

Nick Ma (M.S., 2011)

Nick is a system architect in AWCloud, a top-tier cloud solution provider in China. He mainly focues on large-scale high-scalable cloud infrastructure, dynamic resource scheduling for cloud-resilient data center and software-defined networking technology including network virtualization, overlay network, OpenFlow, switching, routing, etc.

In his spare time, he contributes to OpenStack open source community, maintaining the distributed messaging system for inter-component RPC and developing network functions.

Prior to joining AWCloud, Nick was the manager of R&D department in Zhongfu, a top-tier infosec solution provider in China. He managed more than 30 engineers to deliver various infosec products for financial institutions, military and government.

Royce Fu (M.S., 2011)

As a 2011 graduate from Saint Joseph’s University, Royce is currently a Senior Database Administrator in the Enterprise Administration Team of Information Technology at Saint Joseph’s University.

Royce is primarily in charge of business intelligence systems and Oracle databases of University’s data warehouse technologies which includes Operational Data Store, Enterprise Data Warehouse and IBM Cognos reporting suite to process and generate data for multiple dashboards to serve as business intelligence platform for institutional reporting and analytics. He also manages multiple enterprise systems and underlying databases such as DegreeWorks degree advisement platform and Document Management System.

In 2013, Royce successfully became a member of the Oracle certified administrator program.

Hussain AlHassan (M.S., 2011)

Hussain is a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Bridgeport, performing research relating to processing of brain signals in Biomedical Engineering.

Hiral Shah (M.S., 2010)

Hiral is a Senior software engineer working at Siemens medical solutions. She is charge of development using Java for her clients such as hospitals and clinics. She has also used Gwt for UI development. As a Scrum server admin, Hiral maintains different Scrum servers and keeps them upto-date.

Salem Albagmi (M.S., 2009)

Salem joined Rutgers University after he graduated from SJU. Currently, he is working on his Ph.D. in Biomedical Informatics. His PhD's title is: "Design and Implementation of Ultrasound Simulation Systems for Medical Learning in Web-based Distance Education." Salem has also worked for Medical Imaging Science Department as an IT Specialist since 2012.

Brian O’Neill (B.S., 2007)

Brian graduated in December, 2013, with a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Since January 2014, he has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology at Western New England University, located in Springfield, Massachusetts. Brian’s research is in artificial intelligence and computational creativity—the ability for computers to be creative and assist people in creative acts. His thesis work focused on an intelligent system for detecting and measuring suspense in stories.

Brittany Fasy (B.S. in Mathematics and Computer Science, 2006)

Brittany earned a B.S. in Mathematics and Computer Science in 2006. She then earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science from Duke University. In her second year of graduate school, her adviser (Herbert Edelsbrunner) offered her a position at IST Austria. So, her research group moved to Klosterneubug, Austria (near Vienna), where she lived for three years. She later obtained a postdoc at Tulane University, working with Carola Wenk.

Dr. Fasy is an Assitant Professor of Computer Science at Montana State University.

Richard Burns (B.S. in Computer Science, 2006)

Richard Burns pursued his M.S. and Ph.D. studies at the University of Delaware specializing in Artificial Intelligence. He is currently an assistant professor of Computer Science at West Chester University in Philadelphia, PA.

Patricia Hasson (B.S. 2002, M.S. 2004)

Patricia is currently a Senior Software Engineer for Lockheed Martin and has been with the company since 2004. Her work has includes server and client based applications, focusing primarily on meteorological data; she has also worked on in-house web-based applications.
